Celebrating A Wonderful Life Through Acts Of Service

The Hero Fund NYC is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization established to honor the memory of Detective Jeffrey Alan Lee, a pioneering and devoted NYPD police officer, mentor, husband, and father.

It was established by mentees, family members, and friends of Detective Lee, including former law enforcement explorers he guided during his time as a Youth Officer. The Fund aims to support various causes related to youth, law enforcement, mentorship, and civic duty.

About Detective Lee

Jeffrey Alan Lee was a Youth Officer and Detective with the New York City Police Department. He served his community with distinction, from 1987-2013. An African American police officer, he helped break barriers and foster understanding. He was extremely honest and hard-working; to him, the job wasn't done unless it was done right. He took a deep interest in the members of the community he served, seeing them as people, not statistics. When he came across those on the wrong path, he cared enough to step in to push them onto the right one, and help them along the way. He was a 9-11 first responder, and a devoted husband and father who loved sports and cooking.

Detective Lee was also a warrior. He battled Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease; suffered from diabetes and kidney failure, requiring years of dialysis; and contracted an infection, resulting in the amputation of a portion of his leg. But he was fitted for a prosthetic and fought, returning to manage a full schedule—and he was given the Roosevelt Award for his determination. Even after retiring, he kept up with those whose lives he had impacted. He was a legend in his community, and a pillar of strength.
